Three Village School District Retains Lobbying Services of Island Strategies, Inc.
Increase in state aid sought; Arthur "Jerry" Kremer to head effort

Uniondale, Long Island, New York, March 7, 2006

Island Strategies announces that The Board of Education for the Three Village School District has unanimously approved the hiring of government relations consultant Arthur "Jerry" Kremer in an effort to increase state aid to that school district.

Three Village Superintendent Frank Carasiti outlined the plan for residents, noting that state aid formulas are unlikely to change in the near future and that Three Village must take an "aggressive stand" to secure needed dollars.

"As far as we are aware, Island Strategies is the first lobbying firm to be hired by a Long Island school district," noted Kremer. "We're extremely pleased by the engagement. We hope to find ways to stimulate new funding for the school district, which has an outstanding record of achievement on behalf of its students."

The Three Village School District faces one of the worst situations on Long Island. Over seven percent of its property is tax exempt because of the presence of the State University at Stony Brook. In addition, this past year the State University acquired the Gyrodyne property, which cost the district an additional $200,000 in school tax collections.
In his work on behalf of Three Village, Kremer expects to meet with local members of the New York State legislative delegation and will consult with the State Division of Property Management Services on formulas to increase financial assistance based on the amount of tax-exempt property in the Three Village area. He will also provide suggestions on possible amendments to school legislation that will increase revenues to the district during the upcoming budget season, and will recommend possible legislation for reimbursement to the district for resident children currently educated on the campus of Stony Brook University.
